One of my favorite holidays of the year mainly because this is the only acceptable time of the year you can dress up in weird and unusual costumes. Plus the only time of the year you can get chocolate wasted and eat ridiculous amounts of candy (Also where the older crowd can sneak candy from the younger ones). Halloween is Creepy, Spooky, Scary, and out right fun. A time to see family and neighbors and to see friends and go to parties.
On every Halloween a guy who lives up the street from my house dresses as either Freddie Kruger or Michael Meyers. He walks slowly down the street scaring parents, children, teenagers, and pets. However he pays a special visit to my house where he first scares me and my siblings before pulling his mask off. My dad has known him for a number of years and has served with him on the fire department. Just last year a bunch of 9th graders were having a party down the street and my youngest brother was there. My dad tipped him off about it and he pulled his Michael Meyers mask back on and slowly melted back into the shadows to walk back down the street. A few minutes later young teenage screaming and yelling could be heard and moments afterwards a hoard of young teenage girls and boys came sprinting down the nighttime street with him walking behind them. However my youngest brother came home with a mock scared face, but once the teenagers left he started to laugh. We all knew this man who had made it a tradition to walk around as Michael Meyers on Halloween.
Halloween is also Samhain, observed by Pagans and Wiccans alike. We can thank them for giving us this glorious holiday, but we must remember the roots. Also a tradition we got from old rituals and traditions is carving the pumpkin. Originally used to ward off evil spirits during the time when the veil between the land of the living (this world) and the land of the dead (the afterlife) was the most thinnest. While our loved ones live on the other side of the veil, there are still evil spirits that can cross over and potentially do harm to our families. So people of old carved pumpkins and lit a candle inside. This would protect them during the night when the evil spirits roamed. So if you want to protect your house carve a pumpkin.
So thanks for reading this!
Have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
